What is Aikido?

- Bodo Rödel and Thomas Pütz - kokyu nage
Aikido is a highly developed martial art form based on standardized principles, developed in the 20th century by Morihei Ueshiba in Japan.
The Teacher
Dr. Bodo Rödel (born 1971), 5th dan Aikikai, has been practicing Aikido since he was 16 years old. Since 1993 he has been a pupil of one of the leading worldwide masters in Aikido - Christian Tissier Shihan, 7th dan.
Since 1999, he has been passing on his knowledge in the Aikido-Schule Bodo Rödel. His instruction emphasis on a modern, well-thougt out and dynamic form of Aikido.
"Aikido is the constant search for the ideal technique. The longer you practise, the deeper this search will go and the better you will understand how demanding an exciting aikido actually is. The fascinating moment thereby lies in the posibility of constant self-development. One important factor here is teaching and learning the fundamental basic techniques, the other is understanding the basic learning process which the attacker and the defender are undergoing while acting with each other against each other.
After all, the pleasure you take in the movements, the exchange and the contact with other people are also important components of the communicative aspect in Aikido."
Dr Bodo Rödel, 5th dan aikikai
